(Artikelnr: ROM-048-603)
Philip II. As Caesar, AD 244-247. AR Antoninianus 21mm, 4.38 g. Rome. Struck AD 247. Radiate and draped bust right / Philip II standing left, holding globe and spear; at feet to left, captive seated left. RIC IV 219. Good Very Fine, some green deposits.

Philip II, son of Philip the Arab, was named Caesar in AD 244 and later Augustus. His brief reign coincided with Rome’s millennium festivities, celebrated through specially issued coins featuring animals, games, and religious symbols. Often depicted as a youthful ruler in his coinage, Philip II was likely killed alongside his father during the revolt of Trajan Decius.
